The
UEFA Euros are a very prestigious tournament which was started in the year 1960 and is participated by European countries. In terms of soccer national teams competitions, the Euros are highly rated being ranked next to the
FIFA World Cup which is the most prestigious of them all.
The tournament has seen a huge transformation since its inaugural year because the first edition of the UEFA European Championship only included four teams but the tournament has been expanded with more teams and currently 24 teams take part in this tournament.
The last edition of the Euros was held in 2016 in France and Portugal lifted the trophy after beating the hosts 1 nil in extra time. What was also historic about this final is that it attracted 284 million viewers which is the second most viewed game in European tournament history.
In order to qualify for the Euro finals , a team must finish in one of the qualifying spots or win a play-off match which is used to decide who qualifies among the teams who would have missed the qualification spots.
Right now, Europe has some of the best national teams in the world with immense talent, The Belgian national team boasts of a world class team comprising of Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard amongst other stars, the French team is remarkably talented with players like Pogba, Mbappe, Griezzmann, Dembele amongst others. It is very clear that the tournament with such great teams is not easy to predict but the quality of the matches at the Euro Finals will certainly be very high.
The good thing about soccer right now is that there are no longer minnows in this game because we have seen a lot of upsets in recent years.
Favourites
France 4.50
After agonisingly losing to Portugal in the final in 2016, France are the odds on favourites to win this time around. The French team has been very impressive in the qualifiers and they have such a strong squad in every department and their players are playing at the best clubs in Europe like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
England 6.0
This is probably one of the most talented English squad in many years, the team is so good that many even tipped them to win the 2018 Russian World Cup. Although they eventually lost to Croatia in the semi finals, the World Cup experience will certainly help them at the Euro finals in 2020. Their attack is probably their strongest point with the likes of vHarry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford.
Belgium 8/0
Belgium has produced quality sides over the years but surely this team has to be considered as the best Belgian squad ever. Due to the fact that this team is highly talented, there is a bit of pressure on them to lift a trophy because it is the only thing that will be recognised in future. The team has a highly capable gaffer in Roberto Martinez and he can surely take them to the promised land given the talent he is working with.
Longest Odds
San Marino 5001.0
The number 5000.1 will remind us of how Leicester City defied the odds to lift the
English Premier League in one of the most historic moments in the EPL, it is difficult to see any team achieve that feat in the near future and San Marino do not look like they are a team that can win a Euro title. Recently the were humiliated 9-0 by Belgium so Euros is not an ideal tournament for such a team.
