Kaizer Chiefs is South Africa’s most popular football club which plays in the ABSA premier league and based in Soweto Johannesburg. Kaizer Chiefs is nicknamed Amakhosi or the Glamour Boys by its faithfuls which means that they are a superior club in South Africa but Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns supporters will definitely dispute that because they are also big teams in South African football.

Kaizer Chiefs history
Amakhosi was founded over 49 years ago on the 7th of January 1970 by Kaizer Motaung who is still the clubs chairman. Motaung named the club Kaizer Chiefs, after himself and his former team Atlanta Chiefs and he has done a tremendous job to take Kaizer Chiefs to where it is today because it is up there with the biggest teams in Africa.
Kaizer Chiefs play their home matches at the popular FNB Stadium which is the fourth biggest soccer stadium in the world with a total capacity of 94 736. Even though their home stadium is in Soweto, Kaizer Chiefs are always at home away from home because they have many supporters all around south Africa.
Kaizer Chiefs have won many domestic cups and are the second most successful club in South Africa in terms of PSL titles because both Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have four titles apiece with Mamelodi Sundowns leading with 9 PSL titles. For a big African team like Kaizer Chiefs, what is disappointing is the fact that for them not managed to win a single African Champions League title or even a CAF Confederations Cup in their entire 49 year existence.
Currently Kaizer Chiefs are experiencing something of a dry season having won their last trophy at the end of the 2014/15 season and they came agonisingly close to ending their trophy drought in the Nedbank Cup final only for TS Galaxy to beat them 1 nil right at the death. Overally, their performances during the 2018/19 season left a lot to be desired and their highly demanding supporters have expressed their disappointment in the way things are going for the Soweto giants.
In response to their recent failures, Kaizer Chiefs have been very busy on the transfer market bringing in six players including the prolific striker from Zesco United , Lazurus Kambole and the versatile Yagan Sasman , generally they brought in quality players who will certainly bolster their squad. Chiefs also released several of their players whom they deemed surplus requirements and they look like they mean business this time around having won 3-2 in their first encounter with Highlands Park in a highly entertaining match.
Kaizer Chiefs have a fierce rivalry with Orlando Pirates who are also based in Soweto Johannesburg and the derby between both teams is regarded as one of the best derbies in the world as it draws full capacity crowds in both the FNB and Orlando stadiums. Kaizer Chiefs have endured a 5 year winless streak in the Soweto Derby with their last win coming in December 2014 and they recently lost 2 nil to Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label Cup final.
Kaizer Chiefs’ supporters are hopeful that their fortunes are going to change this season especially with their recent signings and their star man Khama Billiart.
